This week’s prompt was ‘Cocoon’ and again I received some gorgeous responses, here are the top three:

Cocoons – Barbara Leonhard

Reminiscence – Pallavi

Cocoon – Cynthia Hallyn (IG seasoundsc)

It’s been eight days
Eight days since I’ve written
Or even contemplated writing
I’ve not been myself
But wait- Is that true?
Do I even know who I am, or who was?
I’ve been changing and growing
Felt this sense of transforming
For months
Maybe years
Time, a great maker of folly
Head full of confusion and doubt
So, it’s probably safe to say “no”
No, I am an unknown, even to myself

I recall a poem; I wrote that I was cocooning
I suppose we’ll see what happens
A metamorphosis ?
I send up a wish that I might exit that darkness
A Sapho Longwing butterfly
The most alluring of its kind I’ve ever seen
Wings the color of sapphire seas, almost licentious,
Having only ever fed on a vine called ‘ passion ‘
But as quickly as I wish, I take it back
( Hoping ‘ no take backs’ is never uttered by wishes )
Because, truthfully, I do not need to be celebrated
Or spectated
These are not where happiness resides
Not a path to contentment or peace

If I have cocooned
Deliver me in the body of a ‘fair -but -just- that’ butterfly
Perhaps yellow in color
You’ll notice me as I flutter by
But you won’t think me spectacular or rare
Won’t objectify
Won’t try to call your five year old to come, quickly
See the beautiful butterfly!
Or attempt to catch me, pin me down in your box
The one made with intricate wood carvings
And containing the rarest of my species
None of that
I much prefer this scenario
As I continue on my way
Noticed, appreciated, but allowed to freely fly by

November submissions are now closed. December submissions will open in a couple of weeks!

Happy writing!

Kristiana
