The Winter State

Now I emerge from
a winter state,
let hubris I let hibernate wander,
a whole world to squander or
appreciate.

Tear off these coats of paint and
straitjackets
I mistook for tragic but were
just passion
in wait.

Glacier kingdom,
let the solstice ring
in your majesty,
budding leaves on
trees returned to life.

There’s summer to your smile, time to
leave behind your ice.

Let your
grievances melt,
subzero winds repelled from
the capital, and some come back
a breeze.

Let your
darkness be shorter
than the days, because
everything can change
in a single
season.

Believe that’s
called seeing a
forest for
the trees.
