The Historical Us

Nature won
nurturing a sum
of mismatched parts.

Upstart nation seeking
its colonization-
independence is overrated.

Deciding battles in
contradiction’s saddles,
swords at the ready
along coaxial
philosophies.

Plains burn
for compatible outcomes,
and weren’t this our pride, I doubt

we’d let ourselves
be led to folly.

But we’re fighting
and frolicking,
watching comrades
come out swinging only
to eventually
falter;

sleepy lambs on
our altar that have
no knowledge what

a knife can do
to wool.
