Breakup Grammar

Fingernails down the chalkboard
every step that we took forward

I’ve never been
so bored of drama

I won’t use a single
comma or period in
this poem just to feed it some
sense of the unknown

since I’m familiar with
all your overblown crises
untimely
sublimely becoming
my own

you’re just a fucking run-on sentence
bad grammar in search of tension
it’s like Armageddon every Thursday around
here lately and with
mass panic
catering

I
aimlessly
expect a sinkhole to swallow
our living room
whole

and if
that doesn’t take its toll I’ll make mountains
of our molehill to spill a final poem on
your behalf

one last wordplay dance to spare you years of
wondering if

we’ll ever stand a chance

the answer’s no
