Metropolitan Muse

Well I watched you lose the will to bridge
the lands that form
your forests,
undermining, unfortunately
deciding they weren’t important enough
to save.

So they
burned, eroded,
before
cities were built over their
remains.

Canals entrenched, divided common
sense and let the
highways go right to your head.

All exit ramps
lead to
the same dead ends.

And as smog fills the skyline of
your once bright
future, the number of wailing
cruisers enforce
your dread.

You can bend
suburban limits but you’ll never stretch beyond their
condescension.
